Welcome to Arabic at UGA! Explore the options below to discover our Arabic language courses, the Arabic minor, and the Arabic major. Whether you know no Arabic at all or are an advanced graduate student scholar, the program will offer something for you. We hope it contributes to your learning. 

Arabic Courses

The Arabic language courses at UGA begin with an introductory and intermediate sequence:

  • ARAB 1001 Elementary Modern Standard Arabic I
  • ARAB 1002 Elementary Modern Standard Arabic II
  • ARAB 2003 Intermediate Standard Arabic I
  • ARAB 2004 Intermediate Standard Arabic II

We also offer advanced language instruction:

  • ARAB 3005 Advanced Standard Arabic I
  • ARAB 3006 Advanced Standard Arabic II

Students may wish to take an upper-level elective seminar for in-depth learning about related topics, such as the literature, music, or politics of Arabic-speaking communities. These seminars are offered in a variety of departments, including English, Music, History, and International Affairs. 

Students who wish to pursue independent reading in Arabic under the instruction of a faculty member, or who wish to gain experience as an Arabic language teaching assistant in an Arabic class, may contact the faculty to request further information. These options are only offered to individual students on a case-by-case basis:
